The Raptor Paddock: Complete 375 Raptor Systems

The 375 Raptor, designed by Arne Brennan, is a .375-caliber cartridge from the .308 Winchester case family, made for short-barrel subsonic shooting. A 400 gr subsonic bullet fired from a 12.5-inch suppressed firearm is quiet and still hits hard, and a 190 gr supersonic load, developed in a 16-inch barrel, adds flat-shooting reach.

Chattahoochee Munitions manufactures complete 375 Raptor systems: CM7S bolt action rifles, SBRs, and pistols, including PLACID OTB and WOOX walnut models; CM10 semi-automatic rifles and SBRs; all in 12.5 and 16-inch lengths, along with barreled actions, magazines, barrels, the enclosed PLACID 375 suppressor, and 375 Raptor ammunition. The firearm, ammunition, magazine, and suppressor are designed to work together. Start with 375 Raptor subsonic or the 375 Raptor suppressor guide.

What Is the 375 Raptor?

The 375 Raptor is a .375-caliber rifle cartridge designed by Arne Brennan and based on the .308 Winchester case family. The case is necked up to hold .375-inch bullets while keeping the standard .308 bolt face, so the cartridge fits short bolt actions and large-frame AR10-pattern rifles. That lets one cartridge fire very heavy subsonic bullets for suppressed shooting and fast supersonic bullets for hunting at longer distances.

Chattahoochee Munitions manufactures complete factory 375 Raptor firearms in two platforms, the CM7S bolt action and the CM10 large-frame semi-automatic, along with 375 Raptor barreled actions, magazines, barrels, the PLACID 375 and PLACID OTB suppressors, and loaded 375 Raptor ammunition using Maker Bullets projectiles.

375 Raptor Subsonic: Short Barrels and Suppressors

Short-barrel subsonic shooting is the core of the Raptor Paddock. Below the speed of sound, energy comes from bullet weight, and the 375 Raptor’s .375-inch bore accepts a 400 gr bullet. The Chattahoochee Munitions 400 gr Maker REX load carries about 842 ft-lb at 100 yards and stays subsonic even on a 0°F morning. A subsonic load reaches its full velocity in a 12.5-inch barrel, so a short barrel gives up nothing and keeps the suppressed firearm compact. Read 375 Raptor subsonic and 375 Raptor ballistics for the numbers.

375 Raptor Supersonic

The 190 gr Maker T-REX supersonic load leaves a 16-inch bolt action barrel at 2,450 fps (2,430 fps from the CM10) and carries more than 1,300 ft-lb at 300 yards. It is the choice for longer or uncertain distances. Subsonic and supersonic loads shoot to different points of impact, so zero for the load you carry.

CM7S Bolt Action and CM10 Semi-Automatic

Nothing cycles when the CM7S bolt action fires, and it weighs 6 lb 6 oz as a 12.5-inch SBR. It is offered as a rifle, SBR, or pistol with a Tailhook brace, with WOOX walnut furniture, and on the 12.5-inch model with the PLACID OTB. The CM10 semi-automatic gives fast follow-up shots, which helps with hogs, at 7.5 lb as a 12.5-inch SBR.

A dependable 375 Raptor semi-auto is more than a new barrel on a .308. The 400 gr subsonic cartridge is long (2.790 inches for the semi-auto load) and runs at low pressure, so the CM10 uses a centerfeed system with a modified MDT metal magazine, a Superlative Arms adjustable gas block, and an Odin Works adjustable buffer to feed and cycle both subsonic and supersonic loads. Bolt action and semi-auto ammunition are loaded separately, and each should be used only in the platform it is made for. Read 375 Raptor bolt action vs semi-auto to choose.

375 Raptor Barrels: 12.5 or 16 Inch, 1:8 Twist

Every Chattahoochee Munitions 375 Raptor barrel is made by Mos-Tek from 416R stainless steel with 5R rifling, a 1:8 twist, and 11/16×24 muzzle threads, finished in E100 Blackout Cerakote. Choose 12.5 inches for suppressed subsonic shooting and 16 inches for full supersonic velocity and no SBR registration. The 1:8 twist gives the 400 gr subsonic bullet a wide stability margin over Maker Bullets’ 1:11 guidance. See 375 Raptor barrel length and 375 Raptor twist rate.

Suppressing the 375 Raptor

Use a suppressor rated for .375 caliber. The PLACID 375 is an enclosed suppressor, 8.25 inches long and 16.9 oz, with a HUB-compatible mount. The PLACID OTB wraps a titanium reflex tube over the 12.5-inch CM7S barrel, so the suppressed rifle stays short.

  • CM7S bolt action: enclosed suppressor with subsonic and supersonic ammunition.
  • CM10 with subsonic: enclosed suppressor.
  • CM10 with supersonic: flow-through suppressor recommended.

The 375 Raptor suppressor guide covers the choice in detail.

375 Raptor Hunting

The 375 Raptor is used for whitetail deer, feral hogs, and black bear. The 400 gr subsonic load suits suppressed hunting at known, moderate distances; with a 100-yard zero it drops about 35 inches at 200 yards, so a rangefinder is part of the kit. The 190 gr supersonic load suits longer shots. Both Maker bullets are lead-free solid copper and expanding. Read 375 Raptor hunting for guidance by game and distance.

375 Raptor FAQ

What is a 375 Raptor rifle?

A 375 Raptor rifle is a short-action bolt action or large-frame AR10-pattern semi-automatic chambered for the .375-caliber 375 Raptor cartridge. Chattahoochee Munitions manufactures both types: the CM7S bolt action and the CM10 semi-automatic.

Who designed the 375 Raptor?

The 375 Raptor was designed by Arne Brennan. Chattahoochee Munitions manufactures complete 375 Raptor firearms, barreled actions, magazines, suppressors, and ammunition for the cartridge.

Who makes 375 Raptor rifles?

Chattahoochee Munitions manufactures complete factory 375 Raptor firearms: CM7S bolt action rifles, SBRs, and pistols in 12.5 and 16-inch lengths, including PLACID OTB and WOOX walnut models, and CM10 semi-automatic rifles and SBRs in 12.5 and 16-inch lengths. It also manufactures 375 Raptor ammunition, magazines, barreled actions, and the PLACID 375 suppressor.

Is 375 Raptor good for subsonic?

Yes. It suits short-barrel subsonic shooting because its .375-inch bore accepts a 400 gr bullet that carries about 917 ft-lb at the muzzle at roughly 1,016 fps.

Is 375 Raptor the same as 375 Ruger?

No. The 375 Ruger is a larger magnum cartridge for standard-length actions. The 375 Raptor is based on the .308 Winchester case family, fits short actions and AR10-pattern rifles, and fires both supersonic and heavy subsonic bullets. The two are not interchangeable.

Which is better, 338 ARC or 375 Raptor?

The 338 ARC suits an AR15-size rifle and the shortest barrels. The 375 Raptor fires heavier .375-caliber bullets, up to 400 grains in Chattahoochee Munitions ammunition, from a short bolt action or AR10. See 375 Raptor vs 338 ARC.

Can you shoot .308 Winchester ammunition in a 375 Raptor?

No. Fire only ammunition loaded for 375 Raptor. Chattahoochee Munitions 375 Raptor ammunition uses converted brass with a .358 WIN headstamp, and it must never be chambered or fired in a .358 Winchester firearm.

What twist rate does 375 Raptor need?

Maker Bullets recommends 1:11 or faster for the 400 gr REX. Chattahoochee Munitions 375 Raptor barrels use a 1:8 twist.

What barrel length is best for 375 Raptor?

12.5 inches for suppressed subsonic shooting, and 16 inches for full supersonic velocity and no SBR registration.

What suppressor should I use on a 375 Raptor?

One rated for .375 caliber. Use an enclosed suppressor such as the PLACID 375 on the CM7S with any ammunition and on the CM10 with subsonic ammunition; a flow-through suppressor is recommended on the CM10 with supersonic ammunition.

Is the 375 Raptor good for hunting?

Yes. With ammunition matched to the game and distance, the 375 Raptor is used for whitetail deer, feral hogs, and black bear, and it is especially well suited to suppressed hunting.

Is 375 Raptor a SAAMI cartridge?

No SAAMI specification has been published for 375 Raptor. Buy ammunition loaded specifically for 375 Raptor and for your platform.
