Predator Rifles: Understanding the Predator Plains Collection

Predator rifles are commonly associated with high-velocity centerfire cartridges, varmint hunting, and precision shooting. The Chattahoochee Munitions Predator Plains collection brings together four cartridge families within the CM10 large-frame semi-automatic platform.

The 22 Creedmoor, 22-250 Remington, 6mm Creedmoor, and 243 Winchester share several characteristics but have different histories, case designs, and projectile specifications. Understanding these differences provides valuable context when examining the technical characteristics of modern predator rifles.

Predator Plains includes twelve CM10 rifle configurations organized into four chamberings, with three color variations available for each cartridge family.

Four High Velocity Predator Rifle Chamberings

22 Creedmoor — Modern .224-Caliber Cartridge Design

The 22 Creedmoor is a relatively recent standardized centerfire cartridge derived from the Creedmoor family. It uses .224-inch-diameter projectiles and is frequently associated with modern, aerodynamically efficient bullet designs.

Within Predator Plains, the CM10 22 Creedmoor features a 22-inch barrel with a 1:8 twist rate.

The Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute officially announced acceptance of the 22 Creedmoor in February 2024. Readers interested in its standardization can review the SAAMI 22 Creedmoor announcement.

For a detailed comparison of the two .224-caliber cartridges represented in Predator Plains, read our 22 Creedmoor vs 22-250 Cartridge Guide.

22-250 Remington — Established Varmint Cartridge

The 22-250 Remington has a long commercial history associated with high-velocity varmint shooting and predator hunting. Originally developed from the .250 Savage cartridge case, the 22-250 became commercially established during the 1960s.

Among traditional predator rifles, the 22-250 Remington is particularly well known for its association with lightweight .224-caliber varmint projectiles.

The CM10 22-250 Remington features a 20-inch barrel with a 1:14 twist rate.

The cartridge also presents a different magazine requirement from the other Predator Plains chamberings because of its shorter cartridge overall length. Chattahoochee Munitions supplies a dedicated modified 10-round magazine for this configuration.

For additional historical and ballistic information, Hodgdon Powder Company provides a detailed 22 Creedmoor and 22-250 comparison.

6mm Creedmoor — Modern Precision Cartridge Heritage

The 6mm Creedmoor developed from the Creedmoor cartridge family and became associated with modern precision rifle applications.

Using .243-inch-diameter projectiles, it offers a different case architecture from the older 243 Winchester despite their overlapping ballistic characteristics.

The CM10 6mm Creedmoor features an 18-inch barrel with a 1:7.5 twist rate and B5 Systems SOPMOD stock.

Both 6mm cartridges are examined in our 6mm Creedmoor vs 243 Winchester Cartridge Guide, including their case designs, histories, and barrel specifications.

243 Winchester — A Longstanding Hunting Cartridge

Introduced in 1955, the 243 Winchester is a well-established centerfire hunting cartridge derived from the 308 Winchester family.

It uses .243-inch-diameter projectiles and has a long history among predator and varmint hunters, as well as other sporting applications.

The CM10 243 Winchester features a 20-inch barrel with selectable 1:8 or 1:10 twist rates. The configuration includes a B5 Systems CPS Medium stock.

These twist-rate options distinguish the CM10 243 Winchester from the fixed 1:7.5 twist configuration offered in 6mm Creedmoor.

Predator Rifles: CM10 Technical Specifications

The four predator rifle chamberings share the CM10 large-frame semi-automatic platform, but their barrel configurations and magazine requirements differ.

Chambering Barrel Length Twist Rate Magazine
22 Creedmoor 22 inches 1:8 Magpul PMAG 10 LR/SR
22-250 Remington 20 inches 1:14 CM-modified Amend2 Mod-2
6mm Creedmoor 18 inches 1:7.5 Magpul PMAG 10 LR/SR
243 Winchester 20 inches 1:8 or 1:10 Magpul PMAG 10 LR/SR

All four CM10 configurations feature a 15-inch handguard, Superlative Arms .750 adjustable gas block, and Odin Adjustable Buffer.

The 18-inch configuration includes a B5 Systems SOPMOD stock, while the 20-inch configurations feature a B5 Systems CPS Medium stock.

These specifications describe the individual Chattahoochee Munitions rifles and should not be interpreted as universal cartridge characteristics.

Predator Rifle Magazine Compatibility

Magazine compatibility is an important technical distinction in the Predator Plains collection. Although the four chamberings use double-feed magazine configurations, their magazine requirements are not identical.

22 Creedmoor, 6mm Creedmoor and 243 Winchester

These three CM10 configurations use a factory Magpul PMAG 10 LR/SR GEN M3 magazine.

The magazine provides a 10-round capacity and retains its original factory configuration without CM-specific internal modifications.

Dedicated 22-250 Remington Magazine

The CM10 22-250 Remington uses a separate 10-round magazine based on the Amend2 Mod-2 AR-10/SR-25 polymer magazine.

Chattahoochee Munitions modifies the follower and internal magazine geometry to accommodate the shorter 22-250 Remington cartridge overall length.

The completed magazine is surface-prepared and Cerakote finished in Black or Coyote.

For additional information about this cartridge-specific arrangement, visit the 22-250 Magazine product information page.

Suppressor Considerations for Supersonic Predator Rifles

All four Predator Plains CM10 chamberings are configured for supersonic applications. Suppressor selection is relevant to gas-operated semi-automatic firearms because suppressor backpressure can influence operating-system characteristics.

For supersonic CM10 rifles, Chattahoochee Munitions recommends a flow-through or low-back-pressure suppressor.

The CM10 configurations in Predator Plains include a Superlative Arms .750 adjustable gas block and Odin Adjustable Buffer as part of their operating systems.

Suppressor compatibility must be confirmed with the manufacturer, including cartridge ratings, barrel-length restrictions, bore compatibility, and mounting specifications.

Although suppressors reduce muzzle report, supersonic projectiles continue to produce a ballistic shock wave. Appropriate hearing protection remains recommended.

High Velocity Rifle Cartridges and External Ballistics

High muzzle velocity is only one consideration when examining the technical characteristics of predator rifles.

Projectile design, ballistic coefficient, barrel length, atmospheric conditions, and rifling twist all influence external ballistic performance.

Ballistic Coefficient and Projectile Design

Ballistic coefficient describes projectile aerodynamic behavior relative to a reference drag model. Differences in bullet shape and construction influence drag and retained velocity.

A higher ballistic coefficient does not independently guarantee greater accuracy.

For a detailed technical explanation, see the Berger Bullets guide to ballistic coefficient.

Barrel Twist and Bullet Stabilization

Barrel twist rate contributes to gyroscopic projectile stabilization. Bullet length, construction, velocity, and environmental conditions all influence stabilization characteristics.

The different twist rates offered across Predator Plains demonstrate why barrel specifications should be distinguished from the characteristics of the cartridge itself.

For a broader explanation of velocity, ballistic coefficient, trajectory, and wind drift, read our High Velocity Rifle Cartridges Guide.
