A 458 SOCOM pistol puts a .458-caliber bolt action into a 25.00-inch package that weighs about 6 lb 6 oz. The telescoping Tailhook brace adjusts with the cheek riser, and the 12.5-inch barrel is the length the 650 gr subsonic load is developed in. As a pistol it is not a short-barreled rifle under the National Firearms Act; check your state and local laws, and choose the SBR configuration if you prefer a buttpad.
Pistol or SBR Configuration
This 458 SOCOM Pistol can be ordered as a pistol with a telescoping Tailhook brace or as an SBR with a telescoping buttpad, each with an adjustable cheek riser and a 6.0 to 13.5-inch adjustment range. CM7S Action and Trigger
The CM7S action is steel with a Remington 700 footprint and a full PVD coating. It has three locking lugs, a 60-degree throw, and a one-piece spiral-fluted bolt with a .718-inch body, an M16-style extractor, and a .062-inch firing pin. Its .308-size bolt face fits the 458 SOCOM rebated rim. An integrated recoil lug and a pinned 20 MOA Picatinny rail complete the action. The TriggerTech Remington 700 Primary trigger comes flat or curved and adjusts from 1.5 to 4.0 lb.
Barrel and 1:10 Twist
The 12.5-inch barrel is made by Mos-Tek from 416R stainless steel with 5R rifling and a 1:10 twist, finished in E100 Blackout Cerakote, with a shouldered crown, 11/16×24 muzzle threads, and Remage barrel-nut mounting. From a 12.5-inch CM7S barrel, the Chattahoochee Munitions 650 gr Maker REX subsonic load averages about 1,010 fps, about 1,473 ft-lb at the muzzle and about 1,342 ft-lb at 100 yards. The 458 SOCOM Pistol ships with one modified MDT metal AICS-pattern magazine that holds 7 rounds and is configured for 458 SOCOM XL length. It is not suitable for shorter, standard 458 SOCOM loads. Spares are available as the 458 SOCOM magazine.
Suppressing the CM7S
Because the CM7S is a manually operated bolt action, Chattahoochee Munitions recommends an enclosed suppressor rated for .458 caliber.
