8.6 Blackout Bolt Action | CM7S Compact 8″ CKG/Coyote

The CM7S 8.6 Blackout Bolt Action with an 8-inch barrel is the most compact expression of our CM7S 8.6 BLK platform. At just 5 lb 12 oz with an adjustable overall length of 20.50 to 28.0 inches, this configuration combines the CM7S action, an 8-inch barrel, billet CM7 chassis, TriggerTech Primary trigger and vetted AICS-pattern magazine system in an exceptionally short package.

Finished in Cobalt Kinetics Green Cerakote with Coyote furniture, the firearm can be configured as a pistol with a telescoping Tailhook brace or as a short-barreled rifle with a telescoping shoulder stock.

CM offers both 1:3 and 1:5 twist options so the barrel can be selected around the intended projectile and ammunition. With an 8-inch barrel, ammunition and projectile selection become especially important, and we recommend configuring the firearm around the load it is intended to use.

CM7S 8.6 Blackout Bolt Action

At the center of the 8.6 Blackout Bolt Action is the Chattahoochee Munitions CM7S action. It uses a Remington 700 footprint with a three-lug bolt and short 60-degree throw while incorporating the same action architecture used throughout the CM7S firearm family.

  • Remington 700 footprint
  • Three-lug bolt design
  • 60-degree bolt throw
  • M16-style extractor
  • One-piece .718″ bolt body
  • Wire EDM raceways
  • Pinned 20 MOA Picatinny rail
  • Large ejection port
  • Lightweight action-body cutout
  • .062″ firing pin
  • Integrated .300″ recoil lug
  • Tool-less fire-control removal
  • Accepts Remington 700-style triggers
  • 1-1/16″-16 barrel thread
  • Side bolt-stop release
  • Oversized bolt knob
  • Spiral-fluted bolt
  • Full PVD coating
  • Action weight: 25 oz

The three-lug design and 60-degree bolt lift are particularly well suited to the compact dimensions of this firearm, providing generous clearance while retaining the familiar Remington 700 footprint.

8″ Mos-Tek 8.6 Blackout Barrel

This compact 8.6 Blackout Bolt Action uses an 8-inch Mos-Tek premium bolt-action barrel manufactured from 416R stainless steel with 5R rifling.

  • 8″ barrel length
  • 416R stainless steel
  • 5R rifling
  • Choice of 1:3 or 1:5 twist
  • Shouldered crown
  • 5/8×24 muzzle threads
  • Remage barrel-nut mounting system
  • E100 Blackout Cerakote

CM offers both twist rates because projectile construction, length, weight, ammunition and velocity all influence stabilization. Rather than treating one twist as universally correct for 8.6 BLK, we configure the barrel around the intended ammunition and application.

For our broader discussion of barrel length, twist rate, projectile weight and suppressed 8.6 BLK configurations, see the 8.6 Blackout Subsonic Guide.

Why an 8″ 8.6 Blackout Bolt Action?

The purpose of the 8-inch configuration is straightforward: minimize the overall dimensions of the firearm. The resulting 8.6 Blackout Bolt Action measures only 20.50 inches at its shortest configuration and weighs 5 lb 12 oz.

That reduced barrel length becomes especially relevant when a suppressor is added. Starting with an 8-inch barrel helps offset the additional length of the suppressor and keeps the complete system considerably shorter than a conventional rifle-length host.

There is a tradeoff. CM testing with subsonic 8.6 Blackout loads has shown approximately 12 to 12.5 inches to be a particularly useful barrel-length range for powder utilization in the loads we have evaluated. The 8-inch configuration instead prioritizes minimum overall length. Customers choosing between the two should consider the complete firearm, ammunition, projectile, twist rate and suppressor together.

TriggerTech Remington 700 Primary Trigger

The CM7S 8.6 Blackout Bolt Action is equipped with a TriggerTech Remington 700 Primary trigger. Both flat and curved trigger configurations are available.

The Primary provides an adjustable pull-weight range of approximately 1.5 to 4.0 pounds. The CM7S action also accepts compatible Remington 700-style triggers for customers who may choose another trigger configuration.

CM7 Billet Chassis | Cobalt Kinetics Green

The CM7 chassis is machined from billet aluminum and finished in Cobalt Kinetics Green Cerakote. Its compact architecture complements the 8-inch barrel while providing the magazine, accessory and rear-interface features of the larger CM7S configurations.

  • Flared AICS-pattern magazine well
  • Ambidextrous magazine release
  • Large trigger guard for gloved operation
  • Machined billet-aluminum construction
  • Modular rear adapter system
  • M-LOK compatible
  • Full-length bottom ARCA rail
  • Dual integrated QD sling sockets
  • Compatible with AR-15 pistol grips without integrated dovetails

The firearm also includes the CM Precision Vertical Crossover Grip, developed in collaboration with MK Machining.

Pistol or SBR Configuration

This compact CM7S can be ordered in two rear configurations. The pistol version uses a telescoping Tailhook brace with an adjustable cheek riser. The SBR version substitutes a telescoping butt pad assembly with an adjustable cheek riser.

When configured with the shoulder stock, the firearm is an NFA-regulated short-barreled rifle and is subject to applicable federal, state and local requirements.

Vetted AICS Magazine System

The CM7S 8.6 Blackout Bolt Action uses an AICS-pattern magazine architecture. CM uses a vetted magazine configuration with its 8.6 Blackout bolt-action firearms so magazine compatibility is incorporated into the complete system rather than left to customer experimentation.

Additional CM 8.6 Blackout Magazines are available for the bolt-action platform.

Built Around a Compact Suppressed System

An 8-inch barrel gives this CM7S a fundamentally different role from our 12-inch and 16-inch configurations. Rather than maximizing barrel length, this version is designed around customers who place a premium on keeping the complete firearm as short and light as practical.

The bolt-action operating system also avoids the gas-system and buffer-system variables associated with cycling a semi-automatic firearm. This allows ammunition selection to be approached independently from the requirements of a semi-automatic operating cycle.

The barrel terminates in standard 5/8×24 muzzle threads for appropriately configured muzzle devices and suppressor mounting systems. Compatibility should always be verified for the specific suppressor, ammunition and firearm configuration.

Choose 1:3 or 1:5 Twist

CM has been building 8.6 Blackout firearms since the cartridge’s early introduction, before SAAMI standardization. That experience has reinforced that twist selection should be considered alongside projectile design, weight, velocity and barrel length.

Across our longer 12- to 12.5-inch configurations, 1:5 has generally performed well with projectiles around 300 grains or less, while 1:3 has generally been better suited to heavy subsonic projectiles around 323 grains and above. An 8-inch barrel changes the velocity environment, making selection around the actual intended ammunition even more important.

CM therefore offers both twist options rather than presenting either one as universally correct.

For customers prioritizing minimum size, the 8-inch 8.6 Blackout Bolt Action combines the CM7S action, short barrel, adjustable rear configuration and billet chassis into the smallest CM7S 8.6 BLK package in the lineup.

8.6 Blackout Bolt Action FAQ

How short is the CM7S 8″ configuration?

The 8-inch CM7S weighs 5 lb 12 oz and has an adjustable overall length of approximately 20.50 to 28.0 inches, depending on rear adjustment.

Is the 8″ CM7S available as a pistol or SBR?

Both configurations are available. The pistol uses a telescoping Tailhook brace, while the SBR configuration uses a telescoping shoulder stock. The SBR configuration is subject to applicable federal, state and local requirements.

Why choose an 8″ barrel?

The primary advantage is reduced overall length. An 8-inch barrel allows the firearm to remain exceptionally compact, particularly when a suppressor is incorporated into the complete system.

Should I choose 1:3 or 1:5 twist?

The appropriate choice depends on the projectile, ammunition and intended use. CM offers both twist rates because projectile construction, weight, velocity and barrel length all affect stabilization.

What magazine does the CM7S use?

The CM7S uses an AICS-pattern magazine architecture. CM offers a vetted 8.6 Blackout Magazine for the bolt-action platform.

Where can I compare the other barrel lengths?

    Thank you!!

This ordering experience was amazing. The website is easy to order from, descriptions are great, transferring to my FFL was even easy! When I was hesitant on a specific caliber because of ammo availability, Matt was great and actually reached out to me on the phone to explain the firearms and calibers he has. The personal call from Matt is something you very rarely would get from any other company.
You can tell he is passionate about the company and products he offers! When the firearm came in, I couldn’t believe how nice the firearm looked. The fit and finish is out of this world gorgeous. I’ve been able to show several people who are all intrigued by it and agree with the looks and the quality being superior to so many others that there really isn’t a similar comparison.
I can’t wait to get it tested out in a couple weeks and see how it performs in the woods.

I will definitely be back to purchase more weapons from you.

Entire process 10/10 would recommend this company and their firearms.

    Thanks again Matt!
