SOCOM XL and Extended Cartridge Length
The CM10 remains chambered in .458 SOCOM. SOCOM XL does not describe a separate chamber or a different cartridge case.
Instead, SOCOM XL takes advantage of additional cartridge overall length made available by the compatible firearm and magazine architecture. That space becomes especially useful with exceptionally long and heavy .458-caliber projectiles.
A conventional AR-15 magazine limits the overall length available to a .458 SOCOM cartridge. As projectile length increases, more of the projectile must therefore extend into the cartridge case.
The AICS-based CM10 architecture provides additional usable cartridge length so compatible projectiles can be seated farther out.
The chamber doesn’t get longer. The cartridge gets more room.

CM10 650gr Semi-Auto Ammunition
The 458 SOCOM Compact Rifle can be paired with Chattahoochee Munitions 458 SOCOM Semi Auto Ammo developed specifically around the feeding and operating requirements of the CM10.
The current load uses a 650gr Maker REX solid-copper expanding projectile with factory-new Starline .458 SOCOM brass. Cartridge overall length is 2.790 inches, and the propellant configuration is selected specifically to provide the gas required for semi-automatic CM10 cycling.
