8.6 Bolt Action Rifle | CM7S 16″ Cobalt Kinetics Green
The CM7S 8.6 Bolt Action Rifle combines the Chattahoochee Munitions CM7S action with a 16-inch Mos-Tek barrel, TriggerTech Primary trigger, billet CM7 chassis and a vetted AICS-pattern magazine system. Finished in Cobalt Kinetics Green with Coyote furniture, this configuration provides a full-length rifle option within the CM 8.6 Blackout lineup.
CM has been building 8.6 Blackout firearms since the cartridge’s early introduction, before SAAMI standardization. That experience has shaped how we configure the platform, including offering both 1:3 and 1:5 twist rates so the barrel can be selected around the intended projectile and ammunition rather than treating one twist rate as the answer for every 8.6 BLK application.
The 16-inch configuration is intended for shooters who want the CM7S bolt-action system without moving to one of our shorter SBR or pistol configurations.
CM7S Bolt Action
The heart of this 8.6 Bolt Action Rifle is the Chattahoochee Munitions CM7S action. Built around the Remington 700 footprint, the CM7S uses a three-lug bolt and 60-degree throw in a purpose-built action developed for CM bolt-action firearms.
- Remington 700 footprint
- Three-lug bolt design
- 60-degree bolt throw
- M16-style extractor
- One-piece .718″ bolt body
- Wire EDM raceways
- Pinned 20 MOA Picatinny rail
- Large ejection port
- Lightweight action-body cutout
- .062″ firing pin
- Integrated .300″ recoil lug
- Tool-less fire-control removal
- Accepts Remington 700-style triggers
- 1-1/16″-16 barrel thread
- Side bolt-stop release
- Oversized bolt knob
- Spiral-fluted bolt
- Full PVD coating
- Action weight: 25 oz
The three-lug geometry provides a short 60-degree bolt lift, while the integrated recoil lug and pinned 20 MOA rail establish the action and optic mounting system as part of the complete CM7S platform.
16″ Mos-Tek 8.6 Blackout Barrel
This CM7S is fitted with a 16-inch Mos-Tek premium bolt-action barrel. The barrel is manufactured from 416R stainless steel and uses 5R rifling.
- 16″ barrel length
- 416R stainless steel
- 5R rifling
- Choice of 1:3 or 1:5 twist
- Shouldered crown
- 5/8×24 muzzle threads
- Remage barrel-nut mounting system
- E100 Blackout Cerakote
CM offers both twist rates because projectile selection matters. In our testing with barrels approximately 12.5 inches or longer, 1:5 twist has generally performed well with projectiles around 300 grains or less, while 1:3 twist has generally been better suited to heavy subsonic projectiles around 323 grains and above. Projectile construction, length, ammunition and velocity can also affect stabilization.
Our 8.6 Blackout Subsonic Guide goes deeper into CM’s experience with barrel length, twist rate, projectile weight and suppressor selection.
TriggerTech Remington 700 Primary Trigger
The CM7S 8.6 Bolt Action Rifle is equipped with a TriggerTech Remington 700 Primary trigger. Customers can choose either a flat or curved trigger configuration.
The Primary provides an adjustable pull-weight range of approximately 1.5 to 4.0 pounds, allowing the trigger to be configured for the shooter and intended application. The CM7S action also accepts Remington 700-style triggers for customers who may choose a different compatible trigger in the future.
CM7 Billet Chassis
The Cobalt Kinetics Green CM7 chassis is machined from billet aluminum and built around an AICS-pattern magazine system. Its compact stock system, adjustable cheek riser and modular architecture allow the finished rifle to accommodate different shooters, optic heights and shooting positions.
- Flared AICS-pattern magazine well
- Ambidextrous magazine release
- Large trigger guard for gloved operation
- Machined billet-aluminum construction
- Modular stock-adapter system
- M-LOK compatible
- Dual integrated QD sling sockets
- Compatible with AR-15 pistol grips without integrated dovetails
Magazine compatibility is an important part of building a complete 8.6 Blackout system. CM uses a vetted AICS-pattern magazine configuration rather than leaving magazine selection to trial and error. The recommended CM 8.6 Blackout Magazine is selected for our bolt-action 8.6 BLK platform.
Coyote Stock and CM Precision Grip
This configuration pairs the Cobalt Kinetics Green chassis with Coyote furniture. The stock incorporates a telescoping butt pad and adjustable cheek riser, providing adjustment for length of pull and optic alignment while allowing the rifle to collapse into a relatively compact package.
The rifle is equipped with the CM Vertical Precision Crossover Grip, developed in collaboration with MK Machining.
Why Choose a 16″ 8.6 Bolt Action Rifle?
The 16-inch CM7S provides a conventional rifle configuration for shooters who do not need the reduced barrel length of an SBR or pistol. It retains the same CM7S action, twist-rate choices and AICS magazine architecture used throughout our bolt-action 8.6 Blackout family.
For suppressed shooting, a bolt-action platform also removes the variables associated with cycling a semi-automatic action. There is no gas system or buffer system to tune when changing ammunition or suppressor configurations, making the CM7S a mechanically straightforward platform for shooters interested in heavy-projectile and subsonic 8.6 Blackout applications.
The 5/8×24 threaded muzzle also provides compatibility with appropriately configured muzzle devices and suppressor mounting systems. Suppressor compatibility should always be confirmed for the specific suppressor, ammunition, barrel and firearm configuration being used.
A Complete 8.6 Blackout Platform
A properly configured 8.6 Bolt Action Rifle involves more than chambering a barrel for the cartridge. Twist rate, projectile selection, barrel length, magazine compatibility and suppression all affect how the complete system is configured.
That is why CM offers both 1:3 and 1:5 twist options and provides a vetted magazine solution with the platform. The objective is to provide a complete rifle built around the customer’s intended use rather than requiring the customer to solve compatibility issues after purchasing the firearm.

8.6 Bolt Action Rifle FAQ
What twist rate is available for the CM7S 8.6 Blackout?
The CM7S is available with either a 1:3 or 1:5 twist. Based on CM testing with barrels approximately 12.5 inches and longer, 1:5 has generally performed well with projectiles around 300 grains or less, while 1:3 has generally been better suited to heavy subsonic projectiles around 323 grains and above. Projectile design, length, ammunition and velocity should also be considered.
What magazine does the CM7S use?
The CM7S uses an AICS-pattern magazine system. Chattahoochee Munitions provides a vetted 8.6 Blackout Magazine for the bolt-action platform.
Can the 16″ CM7S be used with a suppressor?
Yes. The barrel is threaded 5/8×24 for compatible muzzle devices and suppressor mounting systems. Always verify compatibility with the specific suppressor, ammunition and firearm configuration.
Why does CM offer both 1:3 and 1:5 twist barrels?
CM offers both because the appropriate twist depends on the intended projectile and configuration. We do not treat either twist rate as universally superior across every 8.6 Blackout application.
Is the CM7S compatible with Remington 700 triggers?
Yes. The CM7S uses a Remington 700 footprint and accepts Remington 700-style triggers. This complete rifle is supplied with a TriggerTech Remington 700 Primary trigger.
