8.6 Blackout Hunting Rifle | CM7S 16″ WOOX Walnut
The CM7S 8.6 Blackout Hunting Rifle combines the Chattahoochee Munitions CM7S bolt action with a 16-inch Mos-Tek barrel and WOOX walnut furniture to create a distinctly different configuration within the CM 8.6 Blackout family. It pairs the mechanical architecture of our CM7S platform with the feel and appearance of walnut while retaining an adjustable stock, AICS magazine compatibility and modern accessory mounting provisions.
At 8 lb 10 oz, this configuration is heavier than our standard CM7S chassis rifles, but the WOOX system provides a traditional walnut interface without giving up adjustability. The Exactus stock provides adjustable cheek height and length of pull, while the Furiosa forend incorporates M-LOK mounting positions for modern accessories.
CM has been building 8.6 Blackout firearms since the cartridge’s early introduction, before SAAMI standardization. We offer this rifle with either a 1:3 or 1:5 twist so the barrel can be selected around the intended projectile and ammunition rather than treating one twist rate as appropriate for every 8.6 BLK application.
CM7S Action
The foundation of this 8.6 Blackout Hunting Rifle is the Chattahoochee Munitions CM7S action. Built around the Remington 700 footprint, the CM7S uses a three-lug bolt with a 60-degree throw and incorporates the features used throughout our bolt-action firearm family.
- Remington 700 footprint
- Three-lug bolt design
- 60-degree bolt throw
- M16-style extractor
- One-piece .718″ bolt body
- Wire EDM raceways
- Pinned 20 MOA Picatinny rail
- Large ejection port
- Lightweight action-body cutout
- .062″ firing pin
- Integrated .300″ recoil lug
- Tool-less fire-control removal
- Accepts Remington 700-style triggers
- 1-1/16″-16 barrel thread
- Side bolt-stop release
- Oversized bolt knob
- Spiral-fluted bolt
- Full PVD coating
- Action weight: 25 oz
The three-lug design provides a short 60-degree bolt lift, while the pinned 20 MOA rail provides an integrated optic-mounting foundation for the finished rifle.
16″ Mos-Tek 8.6 Blackout Barrel
The CM7S WOOX rifle is fitted with a 16-inch Mos-Tek premium bolt-action barrel manufactured from 416R stainless steel with 5R rifling.
- 16″ barrel length
- 416R stainless steel
- 5R rifling
- Choice of 1:3 or 1:5 twist
- Shouldered crown
- 5/8×24 muzzle threads
- Remage barrel-nut mounting system
- E100 Blackout Cerakote
Both twist rates are available because the intended projectile matters. In CM testing with barrels approximately 12.5 inches or longer, 1:5 twist has generally performed well with projectiles around 300 grains or less, while 1:3 twist has generally been better suited to heavy subsonic projectiles around 323 grains and above. Projectile construction, length, ammunition and velocity can also influence stabilization.
For more information about selecting barrel length, projectile weight, twist rate and suppression for this cartridge, see our 8.6 Blackout Subsonic Guide.
TriggerTech Remington 700 Primary Trigger
The CM7S 8.6 Blackout Hunting Rifle is equipped with a TriggerTech Remington 700 Primary trigger, available in either a flat or curved configuration.
The Primary provides an adjustable pull-weight range of approximately 1.5 to 4.0 pounds. This gives the shooter the ability to configure trigger weight around personal preference and intended use while retaining the broad Remington 700 trigger compatibility of the CM7S action.
WOOX Walnut Chassis System
The WOOX configuration separates this rifle from the standard CM7S chassis models. It combines walnut with an aluminum structural system, providing the appearance and feel of a traditional wood-stocked hunting rifle while retaining adjustment and accessory-mounting capabilities normally associated with a modern chassis.
WOOX Exactus Stock
- Walnut construction
- Adjustable cheek riser
- Adjustable buttpad height
- Adjustable length of pull
- Bottom Picatinny rail
- QD sling mount
WOOX Furiosa Forend
- Walnut exterior
- M-LOK at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock positions
WOOX Monocore
- M5 bottom-metal configuration
- AICS magazine compatible
This combination makes the WOOX particularly well suited to the 8.6 Blackout Hunting Rifle role. It retains the warmth and handling characteristics associated with walnut while providing an adjustable cheek position, adjustable length of pull, sling attachment points and modern accessory mounting.
Vetted AICS Magazine System
Reliable feeding is part of the complete rifle configuration. The CM7S uses an AICS-pattern magazine architecture, and Chattahoochee Munitions uses a vetted magazine configuration with its bolt-action 8.6 Blackout firearms.
This rifle includes a 10-round AICS-pattern magazine. Additional CM 8.6 Blackout Magazines are available for customers who want additional magazines tested for the platform.
Why Choose an 8.6 Blackout Hunting Rifle?
8.6 Blackout gives hunters the ability to configure a rifle around a broad range of projectile weights, including heavy subsonic ammunition. The CM7S bolt-action platform complements that flexibility by eliminating the gas-system and buffer-system variables associated with cycling a semi-automatic firearm.
The 16-inch barrel provides a conventional rifle configuration while retaining a threaded muzzle for compatible suppressor mounting systems. For a hunter who wants a bolt-action 8.6 BLK platform without moving into a short-barreled-rifle configuration, the 16-inch CM7S provides a straightforward option.
The choice between 1:3 and 1:5 twist also allows the rifle to be configured around the ammunition the shooter actually intends to use. That is particularly relevant with 8.6 Blackout because projectile weights and designs can vary substantially between different applications.
Traditional Materials, Modern Adjustability
The WOOX configuration is intended for the shooter who wants something different from a conventional aluminum chassis. Walnut gives the rifle a more traditional hunting-rifle character, while the Exactus and Furiosa components retain the adjustability and mounting features expected from a modern precision-oriented platform.
The adjustable cheek riser can be positioned around optic height, while the adjustable buttpad provides both height and length-of-pull adjustment. M-LOK positions on the forend provide mounting points for compatible accessories without replacing the walnut exterior with a conventional aluminum handguard.
The result is an 8.6 Blackout Hunting Rifle that visually and ergonomically bridges traditional hunting-rifle furniture and the modular CM7S bolt-action platform.
Built as a Complete 8.6 Blackout System
Chattahoochee Munitions approaches 8.6 Blackout as a complete firearm system. Barrel length, twist rate, projectile selection, magazine compatibility and suppression all influence how the finished rifle should be configured.
Rather than forcing every application into one specification, CM offers both major twist-rate options and provides a vetted magazine solution. Customers can therefore configure the rifle around their intended ammunition and use.

8.6 Blackout Hunting Rifle FAQ
What twist rate is available on the CM7S WOOX?
The rifle is available with either a 1:3 or 1:5 twist. In CM testing with barrels approximately 12.5 inches or longer, 1:5 has generally performed well with projectiles around 300 grains or less, while 1:3 has generally been better suited to heavy subsonic projectiles around 323 grains and above. Projectile design, length, ammunition and velocity should also be considered.
Is the WOOX stock adjustable?
Yes. The WOOX Exactus stock provides an adjustable cheek riser and an adjustable buttpad for both height and length of pull. The finished rifle has an adjustable LOP range of approximately 13.75 to 14.75 inches.
What magazine does this 8.6 Blackout rifle use?
The CM7S WOOX uses an AICS-pattern magazine system and includes a 10-round magazine. CM also offers a vetted 8.6 Blackout Magazine for the bolt-action platform.
Can the 16″ WOOX rifle be suppressed?
Yes. The barrel has 5/8×24 muzzle threads for compatible muzzle devices and suppressor mounting systems. Suppressor compatibility should always be confirmed for the specific suppressor, ammunition and firearm configuration.
Why use a bolt action for suppressed 8.6 Blackout?
A bolt action does not depend on a gas system or buffer system to cycle ammunition. That makes the operating system mechanically straightforward when moving between appropriate ammunition and suppressor configurations.
