Chattahoochee Munitions manufactures this 338 ARC bolt action SBR, a complete factory 12.5-inch CM7S bolt action short-barreled rifle with WOOX walnut and aluminum furniture. It is chambered in 338 ARC with a 12.5-inch Mos-Tek 416R stainless barrel, a 1:6 twist and a TriggerTech trigger, and it is made for suppressed subsonic hunting with the 307 gr subsonic bullet.

WOOX supplies the stock, forend and bottom metal; Chattahoochee Munitions manufactures the firearm. See every configuration in Containment Zone 338, and read 338 ARC hunting.

Why a 338 ARC Bolt Action SBR

A 338 ARC bolt action SBR with a 12.5-inch barrel keeps a suppressed hunting rifle short, at about 32 inches overall, while the subsonic load gives up little velocity.

The walnut WOOX stock adds a full-size length of pull and a traditional feel for stand and still hunting.

WOOX Walnut Furniture

The WOOX Exactus walnut stock has an adjustable cheek riser, a buttpad adjustable for height and length of pull (13.75 to 14.75 inches), a bottom Picatinny rail and a QD sling mount. The WOOX Furiosa walnut forend has M-LOK slots at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock. The WOOX Monocore links the action, stock and forend and uses M5-pattern bottom metal that accepts AICS-pattern detachable magazines.

With a 12.5-inch barrel and a stock, this 338 ARC bolt action SBR is a short-barreled rifle under the National Firearms Act and transfers through a licensed dealer after the NFA paperwork; see NFA Firearms.

CM7S Action and Trigger

The CM7S action is steel with a Remington 700 footprint and a full PVD coating, about 25 oz, with three locking lugs, a 60-degree throw, a .718-inch spiral-fluted bolt and the 6.5 Grendel Type II (.449-inch) bolt face matched to the ARC case head. The TriggerTech Remington 700 Primary trigger comes curved or straight and adjusts from 1.5 to 4.0 lb.

Barrel and 1:6 Twist

The 12.5-inch barrel is made by Mos-Tek from 416R stainless steel with 5R rifling and a 1:6 twist, finished in E100 Blackout Cerakote, with a shouldered crown and 5/8×24 muzzle threads. The 1:6 twist spins the long 307 gr subsonic bullet about a third faster than the 1:8 SAAMI figure. Read 338 ARC twist rate.

Ammunition and Magazine

It fires SAAMI 338 ARC factory ammunition, including the 307 gr Sub-X subsonic, which Hornady rates at 1,050 fps and 752 ft-lb from a 16-inch barrel, and supersonic hunting loads such as the 170 gr MonoFlex and 215 gr FTX. Chattahoochee Munitions does not load 338 ARC ammunition. It ships with one 10-round MDT polymer AICS-pattern magazine, tested by Chattahoochee Munitions with 338 ARC; spares are the 338 ARC bolt action magazine.

Suppressing the CM7S

Chattahoochee Munitions recommends an enclosed suppressor rated for .338 caliber or larger on the CM7S, with subsonic or supersonic ammunition. The bolt does not cycle when it fires, so the action adds no noise. The PLACID 375 is an enclosed suppressor rated from 5.56 NATO through .375. Read the 338 ARC suppressor guide.
