The Chattahoochee Munitions 338 ARC Hunting Rifle combines the CM7S bolt-action platform with a 16-inch MÔS-Tek barrel, 1:5 twist, TriggerTech Primary trigger, and CM7 billet aluminum chassis. This configuration is finished in FDE Metallic Cerakote with AI Dark Earth accents.

Built around the Remington 700 footprint, the CM7S is Chattahoochee Munitions’ flagship bolt-action platform. The rifle brings together CM’s action, barrel specification, chassis, trigger, and a magazine already tested by CM with 338 ARC. The result is a complete rifle configured around the cartridge rather than a collection of components left for the customer to sort out.

The 16-inch configuration makes this 338 ARC Hunting Rifle particularly well suited to customers who want a conventional rifle-length firearm while retaining the heavy-projectile and subsonic capabilities that make 338 ARC an interesting hunting cartridge.

The CM7S 338 ARC Hunting Rifle uses a 16-inch 416R stainless-steel barrel manufactured for Chattahoochee Munitions by MÔS-Tek. It features 5R rifling, a 1:5 twist, and the Remage barrel-nut system.

1:5 Twist for Heavy .338-Caliber Projectiles

Chattahoochee Munitions specifies a 1:5 twist throughout the CM7S 338 ARC family. This differs from the 1:8 twist commonly associated with the standardized cartridge specification and is an intentional CM configuration.

CM has years of experience manufacturing and testing rifles using heavy .338-caliber projectiles. In our testing and experience, the faster twist has performed particularly well with heavy projectiles such as the 307-grain Hornady Sub-X.

For a 338 ARC Hunting Rifle intended to provide both subsonic and supersonic capability, CM prefers to build around that faster 1:5 twist rather than limiting the rifle to the standardized 1:8 configuration.

TriggerTech Remington 700 Primary Trigger

The CM7S uses a TriggerTech Remington 700 Primary trigger, available with either a flat or curved trigger. Pull weight is adjustable from 1.5 to 4.0 pounds.

TriggerTech’s Frictionless Release Technology provides a crisp break with short over-travel, while CLKR Technology allows external pull-weight adjustment. Hardened 440C stainless-steel internal components provide corrosion resistance and durability.

Some product photography may show earlier flat-trigger configurations equipped with trigger shoes. Current production triggers do not use those shoes.

This 338 ARC Hunting Rifle is installed in the CM7 billet aluminum chassis finished in FDE Metallic Cerakote. The chassis provides a rigid foundation while incorporating features useful for field shooting, supported shooting positions, and accessory mounting.

338 ARC as a Hunting Cartridge

The 338 ARC Hunting Rifle gives hunters access to a .338-caliber cartridge within a relatively compact rifle system. The cartridge supports both supersonic and heavy subsonic ammunition, allowing the same rifle platform to serve substantially different ballistic applications depending on ammunition selection.

The bolt-action operating system is especially useful when working with subsonic ammunition because the rifle does not depend on ammunition-generated gas to cycle a semi-automatic action. This allows ammunition selection to be driven by the intended ballistic performance rather than the need to operate a gas system.

For hunting applications, ammunition and projectile selection should always be matched to the game, expected impact velocity, distance, and intended terminal performance.

338 ARC Subsonic Capability

The ability to use heavy .338-caliber subsonic projectiles is an important part of the versatility of this 338 ARC Hunting Rifle. CM’s 1:5 twist specification reflects our experience with these heavier projectiles and suppressed firearm systems.

The same rifle can also use appropriate supersonic 338 ARC ammunition, allowing the shooter to select ammunition according to the intended application rather than restricting the firearm to a single ballistic role.

Why a 16″ 338 ARC Hunting Rifle?

The 16-inch 338 ARC Hunting Rifle is intended for customers who want a conventional rifle configuration without moving into an SBR. It also provides a familiar barrel length for a field rifle while CM’s shorter CM7S configurations remain available for shooters who place greater emphasis on reducing overall firearm length.

In Chattahoochee Munitions’ testing and loading experience with the configurations evaluated, much of the useful powder utilization occurs around the 12-inch range. We therefore do not build the 16-inch rifle on the premise that 338 ARC requires a long barrel to function effectively. The 16-inch configuration primarily provides a conventional rifle format while retaining the cartridge characteristics that attracted us to 338 ARC.
