CM7S 308 Hunting Rifle

The CM7S 308 Hunting Rifle combines CM’s three-lug bolt action and a 16-inch Mos-Tek barrel with an adjustable American walnut chassis produced in collaboration with WOOX. It pairs conventional 308 Winchester performance with the warmth of walnut and the adjustment, magazine compatibility and mounting capability of a modern chassis system.

The 16-inch barrel keeps the rifle manageable in woods, blinds and vehicles without moving into CM’s specialized short-barreled subsonic category. Its 1:8 twist is intended for conventional supersonic 308 Winchester ammunition rather than CM’s 300-grain subsonic load.

The rifle weighs 8 pounds 10 ounces and adjusts from 35.5 to 36.5 inches in overall length. Length of pull adjusts from 13.75 to 14.75 inches, while the adjustable cheek riser helps establish consistent alignment behind the optic.

Mos-Tek 16-Inch 308 Winchester Barrel

The barrel is produced through CM’s collaboration with Mos-Tek. It is machined from 416R stainless steel with 5R rifling and receives E100 Blackout Cerakote for external protection.

A 1:8 twist supports conventional supersonic 308 Winchester projectile weights. The shouldered crown protects the muzzle, while 5/8×24 threads accept compatible muzzle devices, direct-thread suppressors and suppressor mounts.

The barrel installs through a Remage barrel nut and CM7S barrel interface. This arrangement combines the CM7S action with the barrel specifications selected for the 308 Hunting Rifle.

CM7S Three-Lug Bolt Action

The CM7S action uses the established Remington 700 footprint with a three-lug bolt and 60-degree throw. The shorter bolt rotation reduces handle travel and provides additional clearance around the optic during operation.

A one-piece .718-inch bolt body, M16-style extractor and integrated .300-inch recoil lug provide the mechanical foundation of the 308 Hunting Rifle. Wire EDM-cut raceways establish uniform tolerances, while the oversized bolt knob and spiral-fluted bolt support smooth manual operation.

The action and bolt receive a full PVD coating for corrosion resistance and reduced operating friction. A pinned 20-MOA Picatinny rail provides a stable optic interface, and the large ejection port offers clear access to the chamber and action.

CM7S Action Features

TriggerTech Remington 700 Primary Trigger

The CM7S uses a TriggerTech Remington 700 Primary trigger, available with a flat or curved trigger bow. TriggerTech’s Frictionless Release Technology provides a zero-creep break with short overtravel and consistent operation.

Pull weight is externally adjustable from 1.5 to 4 pounds in one-ounce increments. Hardened 440C stainless steel internal components provide corrosion resistance and extended service life. Current flat triggers do not use the removable trigger shoes shown in some earlier CM photographs.

WOOX Walnut Chassis System

The walnut chassis is produced through CM’s collaboration with WOOX. It combines the appearance and feel of American walnut with an aluminum structural core, adjustable stock and detachable AICS-pattern magazine system.

The Exactus stock provides an adjustable cheek riser and an adjustable buttpad for both height and length of pull. A bottom Picatinny rail and QD sling mount support common hunting and field equipment.

The Furiosa walnut forend provides M-LOK mounting surfaces at the 3, 6 and 9 o’clock positions. These interfaces support compatible bipods, sling mounts and other field accessories without replacing the walnut forend.

Exactus Stock Features

  • American walnut construction
  • Adjustable cheek riser
  • Adjustable buttpad height
  • Adjustable length of pull
  • Bottom Picatinny rail
  • QD sling mount

Furiosa Forend Features

  • American walnut construction
  • M-LOK mounting at the 3 o’clock position
  • M-LOK mounting at the 6 o’clock position
  • M-LOK mounting at the 9 o’clock position

MDT CORE Bottom Metal and AICS Magazine

The rifle uses MDT CORE bottom metal in the M5 pattern. It provides the detachable-magazine interface between the CM7S action and the short-action AICS magazine system.

One 10-round Magpul PMAG 7.62 AC is included. The CM7S can use compatible polymer or metal short-action AICS magazines. It does not use the LR/SR-pattern magazines found in conventional CM10 semi-automatic rifles.

Additional magazines are available through the CM 308 bolt-action magazine page.

308 Winchester Hunting Ammunition

This 1:8 twist 308 Hunting Rifle is intended for conventional supersonic 308 Winchester ammunition. CM 308 Winchester firearms can also use appropriate 7.62×51 NATO ammunition.

The two cartridge designations are closely related, but their published pressure information is derived through different testing methods and should not be treated as universally interchangeable across every firearm. Read the 308 Winchester vs 7.62 NATO Guide for CM’s complete compatibility explanation.

Do not use CM’s 300-grain subsonic ammunition in this rifle. That 2.06-inch projectile requires the 1:5 twist used in CM’s specialized subsonic firearms and should not be fired through this 1:8 twist barrel.

Suppressing the 308 Hunting Rifle

A bolt action does not require propellant gas to cycle, making an enclosed suppressor the preferred design when sound reduction is the priority. Suppressor backpressure does not increase bolt speed or interfere with an automatic operating cycle.

The 5/8×24 muzzle threads accept compatible direct-thread suppressors and suppressor mounts. The suppressor must be rated for 308 Winchester, the 16-inch barrel and the intended firing schedule. Confirm mounting compatibility and suppressor-to-bore alignment before firing.

Read the 308 Suppressor Guide for CM’s recommendations across bolt-action and semi-automatic platforms.
