338 Spectre: The Elite Subsonic Powerhouse Bolt-Action Pistol

338 Spectre – This is our flagship Bolt Action pistol. Having built bolt-action rifles and pistols for years across several platforms, we have taken the best available and combined them to make our perfect version of a bolt-action hunting rifle.

CM7S Action – Black Tungsten Cerakote with Polished Steel Fluted Bolt

The CM7S action is designed for hunting use. It can also be used for competition. It is a stainless steel action with a Remington 700-style footprint. The CM7S has several features that factory actions lack. It has an extended magazine well that accommodates extended magazine boxes for the hand-loader who likes to seat his bullets longer than factory ammo. It uses the most dependable extractor available today and has an enlarged primary extraction camming surface. 20 MOA picatinny rail. The bolt is one piece, hand lapped to the action and fluted for better in-field function.

This utilizes a one-piece fluted bolt that is blueprinted to the action. A side-release bolt stop allows this action to be used on triggers without integrated bolt stops. The stainless steel allows for an extremely rigid platform to support the largest barrels, and further reduces any deviation from true when shooting for long distances. A large bullet-shaped Tikka-style ejection port allows for good clearance of the largest shells, while maintaining optimal structural integrity of the receiver under stress.

Raceway is opened using a guided raceway reamer. All CM7S Receivers are made parallel and concentric with a single point thread. A one-piece bolt is fitted to the action, face and diameter of the bolt are trued to the action.

TriggerTech Rem 700 Primary Trigger (Flat or Curved) – photos may depict flat triggers with shoes; they no longer have shoes

The Rem 700 Primary is the ideal upgrade to improve accuracy and precision on any Remington 700 model rifle. Featuring TriggerTech’s Frictionless Release Technology™, this drop-in trigger provides a true zero-creep break, extremely short over-travel, and offers outstanding reliability, even in the harshest environments.

Utilizing CLKR Technology™, the pull weight is quickly and confidently adjusted from 1.5 – 4.0 lbs in 1oz increments from an externally accessible set screw. Due to the exceptionally crisp break,  most shooters report the pull weights feeling ~0.5lbs lighter than a friction-based trigger of the same measured pull weight. Frictionless Release Technology™, along with hardened 440C stainless steel internal components, ensures corrosion resistance and an extended service life.

As Frictionless Release Technology™ does not rely on coating, polishing, or lubricating the key engagement surfaces, trigger pulls will be more consistent from shot to shot and after thousands of shots, more than you ever thought possible.

Why Choose a Bolt-Action Pistol for 338 Spectre?

While many shooters look at semi-auto platforms, the bolt-action configuration of the 338 Spectre offers several distinct sales advantages:

  1. Total Silence: In a semi-auto, the action cycles next to your ear, creating mechanical noise and gas blowback. In a bolt-action pistol, the action remains closed, ensuring the only sound you hear is the firing pin and the impact on the target.

  2. Unmatched Reliability: Bolt actions aren’t picky about gas pressure. Whether you are running light supersonic loads or heavy subsonic “bricks,” the 338 Spectre bolt-action cycles every time.

  3. Superior Accuracy: Without the moving parts of a gas system, our CM7S-based pistols maintain tighter tolerances and better shot-to-shot consistency.

Applications: From the Range to the Field

The 338 Spectre is one of the most versatile specialty cartridges on the market today. Its performance profile makes it ideal for a variety of specialized roles.

The Ultimate “Suppressed” Trainer

Because the 338 Spectre is exceptionally quiet when suppressed, it makes for an incredible training tool. It allows shooters to practice bolt manipulation and fundamentals without the fatigue of heavy recoil or the distraction of a loud muzzle blast.

Specialized Pest and Predator Control

For those managing property, the 338 Spectre offers the discrete power needed for predator control. The heavy .338 bullets carry significantly more momentum than a .300 Blackout, ensuring ethical results on larger pests while remaining neighborhood-friendly in terms of noise.

Building the Ecosystem: Essential Upgrades

To get the most out of your 338 Spectre, we recommend pairing it with components that mirror its high-performance nature.

  • The Trigger: A precision pistol requires a precision break. The TriggerTech R700 Primary is our top recommendation for this platform, offering a zero-creep pull that helps you stay on target.

  • The Muzzle Device: To truly unlock the “Spectre” experience, a high-quality suppressor is a must. Check our Parts Section for compatible muzzle devices and threading accessories.

  • Optics: Given the arching trajectory of subsonic rounds, we suggest a high-quality red dot or a low-power variable optic (LPVO) to maximize the pistol’s effective range.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. What is the effective range of the 338 Spectre?

In a pistol configuration with subsonic ammunition, the 338 Spectre is most effective within 100 to 150 yards. Within this range, it maintains excellent accuracy and terminal energy.

2. Do I need a special magazine for 338 Spectre?

The 338 Spectre is designed to feed from standard magazines, but due to the unique shape of the necked-down 10mm Magnum case, we recommend High-Performance Magazines vetted for this platform to ensure 100% reliable feeding.

3. Can I shoot supersonic ammo through this pistol?

Yes. While the 338 Spectre is famous for its subsonic performance, it can also fire lighter supersonic rounds. This increases the velocity and extends the effective range, making it a “dual-purpose” firearm.

4. How does the 338 Spectre compare to the .300 Blackout?

The 338 Spectre uses a larger diameter bullet (.338 vs .308). This means more surface area and more weight, which often results in better energy transfer on target when comparing subsonic loads.

5. Is this pistol considered an NFA item?

This depends on the specific configuration (braced vs. unbraced) and local laws. We always recommend checking your federal and state regulations regarding bolt-action pistols before purchase.

6. What suppressor should I use?

You will need a suppressor with a bore size of .338 or larger. Many shooters use 9mm subgun cans or .45 caliber suppressors with the appropriate thread adapters, provided they are rated for the pressures of the 338 Spectre.
