375 Raptor Ballistics: Subsonic and Supersonic Velocity, Energy and Drop

375 Raptor ballistics come down to two very different loads from one cartridge, the .375-caliber 375 Raptor designed by Arne Brennan. Chattahoochee Munitions manufactures a 400 gr Maker REX subsonic load that leaves a 12.5-inch barrel at about 1,016 fps with roughly 917 ft-lb of energy, and a 190 gr Maker T-REX supersonic load that leaves a 16-inch barrel at 2,450 fps with 2,533 ft-lb. The subsonic load is the reason most shooters choose 375 Raptor: it carries a heavy, expanding bullet quietly from a short suppressed firearm. The supersonic load adds flat-shooting reach from the same rifle.

375 Raptor Ballistics: 400 gr Subsonic

A 400 gr 375 Raptor subsonic bullet keeps almost all of its velocity across normal hunting distances but drops steeply, so range estimation matters more than wind. With a 100-yard zero it rises about 3.7 inches at 50 yards, falls about 13 inches at 150 yards, and falls about 35 inches at 200 yards.

Range (yd) Velocity (fps) Energy (ft-lb) Drop (in), 100-yd zero Time of flight (s)
0 1,016 917 -1.5 0.00
50 994 878 +3.7 0.15
75 984 860 +2.9 0.23
100 974 842 0.0 0.30
125 964 826 -5.2 0.38
150 955 810 -12.8 0.46
175 946 796 -22.8 0.54
200 938 781 -35.1 0.62
250 922 754 -67.3 0.78
300 906 729 -109.8 0.94

Calculated from the published 1,016 fps bolt action velocity and .49 G1 ballistic coefficient, with a 1.5-inch sight height and a standard atmosphere. The same method reproduces Chattahoochee Munitions’ published 190 gr range card within a fraction of an inch.

The heavy bullet is why the subsonic side of 375 Raptor ballistics holds its energy. A .406 sectional density and a .49 ballistic coefficient mean the 400 gr bullet loses only about 40 fps in the first 100 yards and still carries about 780 ft-lb at 200 yards. The limit is trajectory, not energy: past about 150 yards the drop grows quickly, so most suppressed hunting shots with 375 Raptor subsonic are taken at known, moderate distances.

Chattahoochee Munitions loads two versions: the 400 gr subsonic for bolt action, configured for a manually operated rifle, and the 400 gr subsonic for semi-auto, configured to cycle the CM10. The bolt action load is not intended to cycle a semi-automatic.

375 Raptor Ballistics: 190 gr Supersonic

The 190 gr supersonic load shoots far flatter. From a 16-inch bolt action barrel with a 100-yard zero, it drops about 6 inches at 200 yards and about 21 inches at 300 yards while still carrying more than 1,300 ft-lb.

Range (yd) Velocity (fps) Energy (ft-lb) Drop (in), 100-yd zero Time of flight (s)
0 2,450 2,533 0.00 0.00
100 2,214 2,069 0.00 0.13
200 1,992 1,674 -5.88 0.27
300 1,784 1,343 -20.58 0.43
400 1,592 1,069 -46.27 0.61
500 1,420 850 -85.75 0.81
600 1,271 682 -142.54 1.03

Chattahoochee Munitions published range card for the 190 gr supersonic for bolt action. The 190 gr supersonic for semi-auto averages 2,430 fps and tracks within about 1.5 inches of these figures to 600 yards.

375 Raptor Ballistics: Subsonic vs Supersonic

The two loads trade quiet for reach. At 100 yards the supersonic bullet carries about 2.5 times the energy of the subsonic bullet, and at 200 yards it drops about 6 inches instead of 35. The subsonic bullet is twice as heavy, stays below the speed of sound so there is no supersonic crack downrange, and is the load Chattahoochee Munitions designs its short suppressed firearms around.

  • Choose subsonic for suppressed hunting and shooting at known distances, especially from a 12.5-inch CM7S or CM10.
  • Choose supersonic for longer or uncertain distances, where a flatter trajectory matters more than report.

Does Barrel Length Change 375 Raptor Ballistics?

Barrel length matters far less for subsonic loads. A subsonic load is held below the speed of sound by design, so a 12.5-inch barrel delivers the full performance of the 400 gr load, which is why Chattahoochee Munitions tests it in 12.5-inch barrels. The 190 gr supersonic load is optimized for 16-inch barrels and loses some velocity from a 12.5-inch barrel. Shooters who want a short suppressed firearm choose 12.5 inches; shooters who split time between supersonic and subsonic often choose 16.

Twist Rate and 375 Raptor Ballistics

Heavy bullets at subsonic speed need a fast twist to stay stable. Maker Bullets recommends 1:11 or faster for the 400 gr REX. Chattahoochee Munitions 375 Raptor barrels, made by Mos-Tek from 416R stainless steel with 5R rifling and finished in E100 Blackout Cerakote, use a 1:8 twist, comfortably faster than that guidance.

375 Raptor Ballistics and Terminal Performance

Both loads use solid copper, lead-free expanding bullets from Maker Bullets. Maker states that REX projectiles expand to nearly three times their original diameter while keeping nearly all of their weight. For hunting, match the load to the game and the expected impact velocity; the hub’s 375 Raptor hunting section covers whitetail deer, feral hogs, and black bear.

Firearms for 375 Raptor Ammunition

Chattahoochee Munitions manufactures complete 375 Raptor firearms matched to these loads: CM7S bolt action rifles, SBRs, and pistols in 12.5 and 16-inch lengths, including the 12.5-inch CM7S with PLACID OTB, and CM10 semi-automatic rifles and SBRs such as the 12.5-inch CM10 375 Raptor SBR.
