TriggerTech Rem 700 Primary Trigger (Flat or Curved) – photos may depict flat triggers with shoes; they no longer have shoes

The Rem 700 Primary is the ideal upgrade to improve accuracy and precision on any Remington 700 model rifle. Featuring TriggerTech’s Frictionless Release Technology™, this drop-in trigger provides a true zero-creep break, extremely short over-travel, and offers outstanding reliability, even in the harshest environments. Utilizing CLKR Technology™, the pull weight is quickly and confidently adjusted from 1.5 – 4.0 lbs in 1oz increments from an externally accessible set screw.

Due to the exceptionally crisp break,  most shooters report the pull weights feeling ~0.5 lbs lighter than a friction-based trigger of the same measured pull weight. Frictionless Release Technology™, along with hardened 440C stainless steel internal components, ensures corrosion resistance and an extended service life. As Frictionless Release Technology™ does not rely on coating, polishing, or lubricating the key engagement surfaces, trigger pulls will be more consistent from shot to shot and, after thousands of shots, more than you ever thought possible.

Premium Big-Bore Performance: Why Choose 458 SOCOM Ammo?

When standard intermediate rounds fall short of delivering immediate stopping power, 458 SOCOM ammo stands in a league of its own. Originally birthed from elite special operations field experience requiring massive kinetic transfer from a compact carbine, this cartridge turns any standard AR-15 platform into a devastating big-bore powerhouse. Whether you are stalking wild hogs in dense brush, taking down large game, or running a stealthy suppressed setup, investing in factory-fresh, precision-loaded 458 SOCOM ammo ensures maximum terminal efficiency every single time you press the trigger.

Unlike traditional rifle cartridges that sacrifice bore diameter for flat trajectories, 458 SOCOM ammo is engineered specifically for close-to-medium-range dominance. Pushing heavy projectiles ranging from 250-grain supersonic hollow points up to massive 500+ grain subsonic loads, this ammunition generates over 2,400 ft-lbs of muzzle energy. The result? Uncompromised momentum, deep tissue penetration, and authoritative bone-crushing stopping power within 150 to 200 yards.

Key Advantages of Shooting 458 SOCOM Ammunition

  • Direct AR-15 Platform Compatibility: Upgrade to big-bore stopping power without replacing your entire firearm system. A quality upper receiver swap paired with high-grade 458 SOCOM ammo utilizes your existing AR-15 lower receiver, buffer assembly, and triggers.

  • Standard Magazine Single-Stacking: Forget proprietary, hard-to-find magazines. 458 SOCOM ammo single-stacks perfectly into standard GI 5.56 NATO magazines (a 30-round 5.56 magazine reliably holds 10 rounds of .458 SOCOM).

  • Versatile Projectile Options: From solid copper monolithic expanders to jacketed hollow points (JHP) and heavy subsonic round-nose lead, there is a specialized 458 SOCOM ammo variant tailored for hunting, tactical applications, or target practice.

  • Exceptional Suppressor Integration: Heavy subsonic 458 SOCOM ammo loads (500gr–600gr) pair seamlessly with modern suppressors, delivering ultra-quiet acoustic signatures combined with hard-hitting kinetic impact.

Ballistics & Load Specifications Breakdown

To choose the optimal load for your shooting requirements, review the primary performance metrics for standard 458 SOCOM ammo configurations fired from a standard 16-inch barrel:

Projectile Type & Weight Muzzle Velocity (FPS) Muzzle Energy (ft-lbs) Primary Target / Application
250 gr Solid Copper (Supersonic) ~2,150 FPS ~2,565 ft-lbs Long-range expansion & medium game
300 gr Jacketed Hollow Point (JHP) ~1,900 FPS ~2,405 ft-lbs Whitetail deer, feral hog hunting
325 gr Flex-Tip Expanding (FTX) ~1,860 FPS ~2,496 ft-lbs Heavy brush hunting & rapid expansion
405 gr Flat Nose (Heavy Supersonic) ~1,600 FPS ~2,322 ft-lbs Large game, bear defense, dense cover
500 gr Subsonic SCHP / RN ~1,000 FPS ~1,335 ft-lbs Suppressed shooting & tactical applications

Optimizing Your Rifle for 458 SOCOM Ammunition

To squeeze maximum consistency and accuracy out of your 458 SOCOM ammo, matching your firearm components to the ammunition is crucial.

  1. Barrel Twist Rate: A 1:14″ twist rate is the gold standard for stabilizing the most popular 300gr to 400gr 458 SOCOM ammo options, whereas a tighter 1:10″ or 1:12″ twist helps stabilize ultra-heavy 500+ grain subsonic bullets.

  2. Proper Feed Ramps: Because of the wide bullet diameter, ensure your upper receiver features an enlarged single-feed ramp or properly blended dual feed ramps to prevent bullet nose hang-ups during rapid chambering.

  3. Muzzle Brakes & Recoil Management: While the recoil impulse of 458 SOCOM ammo is manageable (similar to a 20-gauge shotgun), fitting your barrel with an aggressive muzzle brake or a quality suppressor makes follow-up shots remarkably smooth and fast.

If you are looking to complement your ammunition with custom-engineered firearms or complete upper setups built specifically for this caliber, explore our premium rifle configurations like the 458 SOCOM XL Rifle to maximize your field precision. For broader ballistics specifications and industry testing guidelines, you can also consult official SAAMI cartridge standards on the SAAMI Ammunition Resources platform.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Do I need special magazines to feed 458 SOCOM ammo?

A: No! Standard USGI 5.56 NATO metal or polymer magazines work exceptionally well with 458 SOCOM ammo. The rounds stack in a single column rather than double-stacking. A standard 30-round 5.56 magazine comfortably holds 10 rounds of .458 SOCOM, while a 20-round magazine holds 7 rounds.

Q: What is the effective hunting range for 458 SOCOM ammo?

A: 458 SOCOM ammo is optimized for short-to-medium-range shooting. With supersonic 300gr to 325gr loads, it provides a flat, lethal trajectory out to 150–200 yards. Beyond 200 yards, the large bullet drops significantly, making it primarily a brush-country or short-range hunting cartridge.

Q: How does 458 SOCOM ammo compare to .450 Bushmaster and .50 Beowulf?

A: While all three are big-bore AR cartridges, 458 SOCOM ammo utilizes a rebated bottleneck case design that headspaces on the shoulder rather than the case mouth. This allows for a wider variety of bullet types (including pointed and flex-tip designs) and superior feeding reliability from standard unmodified AR magazines.

Q: Is 458 SOCOM ammo safe to shoot through a suppressor?

A: Absolutely. Heavy subsonic 458 SOCOM ammo (typically 500gr to 600gr) is specifically designed for suppressed performance, keeping velocities below the speed of sound (~1,120 FPS) to eliminate the sonic boom while delivering immense bullet mass downrange. Ensure your suppressor is rated for big-bore rifle calibers.

Q: What barrel length works best for 458 SOCOM ammo?

A: A 16-inch barrel is ideal, as the fast-burning powders used in 458 SOCOM ammo achieve full propellant burn in approximately 14 to 16 inches of barrel length. Going longer provides minimal velocity gains, making 16″ carbines and short-barreled setups (SBRs) the most practical choices.
