CM7S 338 ARC Bolt Action Rifle – 16″

The Chattahoochee Munitions 338 ARC Bolt Action Rifle combines the compact 338 ARC cartridge with the CM7S Remington 700-footprint action and a 16-inch MÔS-Tek barrel using CM’s 1:5 twist specification. This configuration is finished in Cobalt Kinetics Green Cerakote with AI Dark Earth accents.

The CM7S is Chattahoochee Munitions’ flagship bolt-action platform. It brings together our CM7S action, 338 ARC barrel specification, billet chassis, TriggerTech trigger, and a magazine already tested by CM for the cartridge. Rather than leaving the customer to determine component compatibility after purchase, the complete rifle is configured and tested as a system.

The 16-inch 338 ARC Bolt Action Rifle provides a conventional rifle-length configuration for customers who do not want the additional regulatory considerations associated with an SBR while retaining the heavy-projectile and subsonic capabilities that make 338 ARC particularly interesting.

CM7S Action – Full PVD Coated

The 338 ARC Bolt Action Rifle is built around the Chattahoochee Munitions CM7S action. The stainless-steel action uses a Remington 700 footprint with a three-lug bolt and 60-degree bolt throw.

16″ MÔS-Tek 338 ARC Barrel

The CM7S 338 ARC Bolt Action Rifle uses a 16-inch 416R stainless-steel barrel manufactured for Chattahoochee Munitions by MÔS-Tek. The barrel uses 5R rifling, a 1:5 twist, and the Remage barrel-nut system.

  • 16″ barrel length
  • 416R stainless steel
  • 5R rifling
  • 1:5 twist rate
  • Shouldered crown
  • 5/8×24 muzzle threads
  • Remage barrel-nut system
  • E100 Blackout Cerakote

Why CM Uses a 1:5 Twist

Chattahoochee Munitions specifies a 1:5 twist throughout the CM7S 338 ARC family. This differs from the 1:8 twist commonly associated with the standardized cartridge specification and is an intentional CM configuration.

CM has years of experience manufacturing and testing firearms using heavy .338-caliber projectiles. In our testing and experience, the faster twist has performed particularly well with heavy projectiles such as the 307-grain Hornady Sub-X.

That experience is one reason the 338 ARC Bolt Action Rifle uses the same 1:5 twist specification across CM7S barrel lengths rather than changing twist rate with each configuration.

TriggerTech Remington 700 Primary Trigger

The CM7S uses a TriggerTech Remington 700 Primary trigger and is available with either a flat or curved trigger. Pull weight is adjustable from 1.5 to 4.0 pounds.

TriggerTech’s Frictionless Release Technology provides a crisp break with short over-travel, while CLKR Technology allows external pull-weight adjustment. Hardened 440C stainless-steel internal components provide corrosion resistance and durability.

Some product photography may show earlier flat-trigger configurations equipped with trigger shoes. Current production triggers do not use those shoes.

CM7 Billet Aluminum Chassis

The complete 338 ARC Bolt Action Rifle is installed in the CM7 billet aluminum chassis, finished here in Cobalt Kinetics Green Cerakote.

  • Machined from a single block of billet aluminum
  • Flared AICS-pattern magazine well
  • Ambidextrous magazine release
  • Accepts AR-15 pistol grips without an integrated dovetail
  • Large trigger guard for gloved operation
  • Modular single-bolt stock adapter system
  • M-LOK compatible
  • Dual integrated QD sling sockets
  • Full-length bottom ARCA rail

Why Choose a 338 ARC Bolt Action Rifle?

A 338 ARC Bolt Action Rifle combines the cartridge’s compact dimensions and heavy .338-caliber projectile capability with the simplicity of a manually operated action.

338 ARC is compact enough to operate within the AR-15 cartridge envelope, but the cartridge also presents an interesting combination of characteristics in a bolt-action platform. A manually operated action does not require ammunition to generate the gas necessary to cycle a semi-automatic operating system.

For shooters interested in heavy subsonic ammunition and suppressed use, this gives the bolt-action platform a different operating envelope. The CM7S also allows 338 ARC to be paired with the extensive Remington 700 ecosystem while CM handles the cartridge-specific elements of the rifle, including the barrel specification, bolt face, magazine selection, and complete-system configuration.

338 ARC Subsonic Capability

One of the primary reasons Chattahoochee Munitions builds the 338 ARC Bolt Action Rifle is the cartridge’s ability to operate with heavy .338-caliber subsonic projectiles.

CM’s 1:5 twist specification reflects our experience with these heavier projectiles. The rifle can also use appropriate supersonic 338 ARC ammunition, giving the cartridge both subsonic and supersonic capability from the same platform.

For a deeper technical discussion of the cartridge, barrel length, twist rate, suppression, and comparisons with 300 Blackout and 8.6 Blackout, read our 338 ARC Subsonic guide.

16″ 338 ARC Bolt Action Rifle Configuration

The 16-inch 338 ARC Bolt Action Rifle is the conventional rifle-length member of the CM7S 338 ARC family. Chattahoochee Munitions also offers shorter configurations for customers who place a greater priority on reducing overall firearm length.

In CM’s testing and loading experience with the configurations evaluated, much of the useful powder utilization occurs around the 12-inch range. The 16-inch configuration therefore is not offered on the premise that 338 ARC requires a long barrel. Instead, it provides a conventional rifle configuration for customers who prefer a 16-inch barrel and do not want to move into an SBR configuration.
